Netflix Original: Before I Wake (2016)

When it comes to Netflix Originals it’s so easy for it to be a hit or miss. They produce a lot of films and tv-shows lately but much of it isn’t watchable or little bit interesting. I been having my eye on ‘Before I Wake’ for a while now and since it’s almost horror I thought I’d give it a try. The film reminded me a lot about the horror movie ‘Mama’ – where 2 children are found in the woods in a shack, been kept alive by a ghost called Mama and she protects them. ‘Before I Wake’ is a lot like that.

Jessie & Mark lost their child in an accident happened at home, he drowned in the bathtub. Trying to heal they decide to become foster parents to a little boy called Cody. This little boy is a special one. He’s kind, sweet and so polite. But there is something very dark about him. When he falls asleep his dreams come true. Regular dreams and nightmare a like. At first Jessie takes advantage of this because when Cody dreams, their son appears. So she wants to see him, drugs Cody so he sleeps but he doesn’t like sleeping. Bad things tend to happen when he does. A figure appears but he doesn’t tell anyone until Cody starts screaming in his sleep, Jessie and Mark run to him to see what’s wrong and that’s when they see it. What happens when he truly sleeps. So now they have to fight to keep him and for their lives, Jessie does some research to learn more about her foster son.

Like I said previously, a lot of the aspects of the film reminded me about the horror ‘Mama’. You will understand why if you see the film. It’s a Netflix Original so you’ll find it in that category on Netflix.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Kate Bosworth – Jessie (SuperMan Returns, Still Alice, 21, Blue Crush)
  • Thomas Jane – Mark (The Mist: Movie, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher, Face/Off)
  • Jacob Tremblay – Cody (The Book of Henry, The Smurfs 2, Room)
  • Annabeth Gish – Natalie (Grass Stains, Team Life, Scandal, The Sons of Anarchy)
  • Hunter Wenzel – Tate (Gilmore Girls: A Year in Life, South of Hell)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

The director of this movie is Mike Flanagan, born in Salem, Massachusetts. As a child he would relocate often as his father was a U.S Coast Guard, as a child he would shoot and edit his own shorts on VHS and that continued when he attended high school and was in drama department. He’s done a lot of films during his career and if you enjoy horror then you might have seen some of his work: Oculus, HUSH, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Cold Harbor and many more.

Netflix Original: Spectral (2016) **REVIEW**

When it comes to Sci-Fi it’s either a hit or miss or somewhere in between. But ‘Spectral’ is a true hit and it had me in suspense the entire time.

‘Spectral’ takes place in Moldova, the world is in despair of war and a team of special ops are facing a whole new enemy, something they can’t see, fight or kill. It comes sneaking up to it’s victims and when you are about realize what is going to happen it’s too late. This thing goes right through you and it’s over. The team get’s an engineer over to monitor what is going on and possibly build something to help them. As they go out in Moldova to find one of these things, something happens they never expected. They are more and coming towards them in large numbers, working together and the team now have to run because stopping these things, won’t be easy. Just need to figure out what they are and what they are made of.

‘Spectral’ can be found on Netflix in their Netflex Original category, it’s a 1H 48min long action filled film. Just don’t blink, you might miss the thing that’s chasing them.

Actors: James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer, Bruce Greenwood, Max Martini, Cory Hardict & Clayne Crawford with many more.

The Colony – **REVIEW**

I know I been away for a long time. Changed my internet provider and moved to a bigger place. But now I am back and ready to give you more reviews on movies I’ve seen. And I shall start with a movie I saw a few days ago on Netflix.

A new ice age have come and mankind have to live below surface to survive the cold. Humans now live in bunkers where they grow plants indoors and raise animals. Every seed is being preserved, they maintain their own electricity.

The movie begins in colony 7, just a few humans left – trying to live. They receive a destress radio call from colony 5. So 3 people from colony 7 decide to go over there to help them out. While they are out colony 7 is going to hell. But when the 3 people arrive to colony 5 something is wrong. They find them missing. But while there they see a video transmitted call, someone have managed to get heat. While seeing the call they get attacked. Colony 7 people are trying to get out immediately – but barely gets out. Now their plan is to get back to colony 7 fast as possible. To prevent what happened to no5 happening to no7.

Now you may ask what happened? Well watch the film and I promise you that you won’t get disappointed. It’s an excellent movie.
