Netflix Original: The Foreigner (2017) **REVIEW**

We seen Jackie Chan in different movies but we haven’t seen him in a film like this. ‘The Foreigner’ touches a subject that you guess been done before but mainly by Hollywood. ‘The Foreigner’ takes place in London in the start of the film, Quan is a single dad with a teenage daughter owning a Chinese takeaway. He’s been a citizen in Britain since 1980’s. He drives his daughter to a shop so she can buy her dress for the school dance.

Quan seems like a nice, loving & devoted father. She runs in to the shop while he parks. Little to their knowing, someone places a bomb. It goes off. Quan get’s mildly injured but his daughter, not so lucky. She dies on impact and he is besides himself. All he wants from here is to know the names of the people who places the bomb. IRA takes credit for the attack.

Quan travels to Belfast to talk to Liam Hennesy – a Irish government official, who’s also a former IRA member. But you are never really former are you? Quan knows he knows the names or has a hunch who it could be but Mr Hennesy refuses to give out the names for he is hunting the people too. But Quan got a set of skills that no one saw coming. It starts small. A bomb in his office as a warning but then they get bigger.

Quan is a former special forces in Chinese Army so that sets a little scare in Liam Hennesy. At the same time Liam have to deal with Quan he also has to find out who detonated the bombs. British government and Irish are desperate to find out but who finds the people first?

‘The Foreigner’ is a really good crime drama from Jackie Chan. We could see he still does his own stunts, in his age, it couldn’t have been easy to say the least. But he delivered a brilliant performance. We see Pierce Brosnan as Liam Hennesy and I have to say, this is one of his better roles. Highly recommended.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Charlie Murphy – Maggie/Sara McKay (Philomena, The Village, Happy Valley)

Netflix Original: 1922 (2017) **REVIEW**

It’s been a incredible year for the horror king himself; Stephen King. We seen The Mist, IT and now Netflix is dropping some Mr King stuff and we have ‘1922’ coming out first. What got my attention with this is the story itself. It’s not a long film but oh boy it is a good one.

It’s 1922, Wilfred is a farmer who is doing a good job with help with his son Henry. His wife Arlette hates the farm and want to sell some land, and obviously Wilfred isn’t exactly too keen on that idea. So he gets a ‘brilliant’ idea of starting to turn their son against his mother. One day, out of the blue, Wilfred agrees with his wife to his wife’s idea to sell some land to get money. He gets her drunk, Wilfred ad Henry carries her to bed. And that is when things goes south. Both of them kills Arlette, in her sleep. To avoid selling some land. She was  going to sell anyway without her husbands say so.

Wil and Henry now gets rid of the body and all the evidence of her blood. They are making it look like she took off with a suitcase of clothes and their savings. Everything seems aright so far but then Wil starting to notice some things going around the house. He see’s silhouettes of his wife and lot’s of rats coming everywhere. Some would say this is guilt playing him some tunes or is it an actual haunting taking place?

‘1922’ is a little slow but the story in itself is really good and I would recommend anyone to head over to Netflix and see it right now. You won’t be disappointed. Actors are incredible and so is the story.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Thomas Jane – Wilfred James (The Mist, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher Face/Off)
  • Molly Parker – Arlette James (The Road, Kissed, Deadwood, House of Cards)
  • Dylan Schmid – Henry James (Once Upon a Time, Horns, Shut Eye, Anything for Love)
  • Kaitlyn Bernard – Shannon Cottorie (The Healer, Cadence, When Calls the Heart)
  • Neal MacDonough – Harlan Cottorie (Minority Report, Flags of our Fathers, Star Trek: First Contact)
  • Tanya Champoux – Sallie Cottorie (The Day the Earth Stood Still, 2012, Eve and the Fire House, A Christmas to Remember)
  • Brian d’Arcy James – Sheriff James (Spotlight, Shrek the Musical, Game Change)
  • Patrick Keating – Mr Stoppenhauser (The Betrayed, The Deadly Pledge, The X Files: I want to Believe)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Zak Hilditch wrote and directed ‘1922’ and you might have seen some of his other work. Mostly shorts. These Final Hours, Transmission and bigger films along side with latest 1922.

Going in Style (2017) **REVIEW**

When you think about three old timers, three legendary actors starring in same film you’d think it would be a film about some old people being sassy and best friends. How about you think again?

Willie, Joe & Albert and three best friends and pensioners doing everything together, even watching Batchorlette. They are quite adorable together. One day they find out that the steel plant they worked at all their lives are going bankrupt so their pensions are being stopped and all of a sudden, they are about to lose their houses and everything. So.. Joe comes up with an idea after an experience he had at his bank; “how about he rob a bank?”. Yeah like that is going to make it all better? But after a few arguments these old chaps go for it.

They reach out to Joe’s daughters ex-husband who know some people who could possibly help with the preparation of the heist. So much planning and accuracy goes into to the entire thing because we don’t want to get caught right? It’s one wild and stupid plan we got here, will they pull it off?

It’s a really funny film with some of the acting worlds most prestigious and legendary actors. We see Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, Alan Arkin & Christopher Lloyd. Chris sort of plays this pensioner who showing signs of dementia but delivers the one way he only knows how: funny. He is a key person in the chaps story for them to get away with the robbery.

“Going in Style” won’t disappoint you, it’s filled with laugher and all smiles. I say go for it when you are having a bad day, it will cheer you up.

Actors: Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Christopher Lloyd, John Ortiz, Matt Dillon, Joey King and many more.

Netflix Original: The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared (2016) **REVIEW**

‘The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared’ is a comedy coming from Sweden and I found it the other day on Netflix and talk I was happy. As some of you might not know I’m born and raised in Sweden so comedy was a huge part of my life since it’s part of our culture. The main character is a huge comedy actor and one my favorite from home.

‘The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared’ is about a man called Allan Karlsson who was a spy for the Russians and Americans during Cold War. He developed something called Folksoda and now people are looking for him to get the recipe.  So Allan and his friend goes from Bali where the film begins to go to Berlin to pick up the recipe for the Folksoda but ends up in Russia first to then take a train to Berlin. On the plane from Bali to Berlin Allan’s pet friend monkey went into his bag and he got out in the plane caused panic and had to get off in Russia.

So, when it gets out in the world that Allan is alive and Russian woman living in Sweden goes after him (her father worked with Allan during Cold War) and then a British man also goes after him. So when  Allan and his friend travels around to find the recipe to only find it.. well.. not in Berlin. It’s quite funny one and one of my favorite actors – Robert Gustafson – playing Allan. Loved every bit of it.

It’s a Netflix Original film, got happy to find it on the British one, so have a look on your Netflix and see if they added it in your country. Keep in mind – it’s in Swedish so it’s subtitled.

Actors: Robert Gustafsson, Crystal the Monkey, Caroline Boulton, Jens Hulten, Colin McFarlane, Joseph Long, David Schaal, David Wiberg, Georg Nikoloff and many more.

The Fate of the Furious (2017) **REVIEW**

We all have heard about or seen all or some of the ‘Fast & Furious’ movie series. The toll is now up to 8 films and this one is smacked with different stars. They even have a actor from Game of Thrones.

‘The Fate of the Furious’ is just a action packed film with explosions. We got the regular gang trying to fight one of their own this time who is working together with a infamous cyber terrorist called Cipher. She is one crazy bitch, if I may say.  We get to see Elena again, the woman Dom had a relationship with in Rio when he thought Letty was dead. And she comes with a surprise one that makes Dom betray his own family and wife to go work for a terrorist.

This being the 8th installment of the film it’s so predictable, we all know the ending. Happy ending, all is well. I’d like to see one ending where it doesn’t end well, something different.

Actors: Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron, Kristofer Hivju, Ludacris, Luke Evans, Nathalie Emmanuel and many more.

John Wick; Chapter 2 (2017) **REVIEW**

Keanu Reeves is back with his role as the assassin John Wick and this one is a little bit different from the first one. And how you may ask? Well, in the first John goes after the man who stole his car day after this wifes funeral, second film he’s being targeted.

“John Wick: Chapter 2” starts with John finding his car that vanished and of course he gets it back but he have to send it for repairs at Romans. As he is home  he gets a knock on the door, a man named Santino want him to take a contract, obviously John don’t want to and that doesn’t sit well with the Italian. So John’s house goes boom. So now he got no choice but to take the contract, it leads him to Rome to kill Santino’s sister for a seat at a board that she got after their father passed. But as John is about to leave Rome, some ties need to be tied and John leaves with a $7 million USD prize on his head so when he’s back in NYC, shit is about to hit the fan. John’s biggest challenge yet, he need to find Santino, but he is heavily guarded.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a third film would come out soon by how it ended and it ended interesting as hell and John Wick is against the clock. “John Wick: Chapter 2” is more violent than the first, it’s more vibrating and it will keep you on the edge of your seat for 2hours. If you are a fan of the first John Wick film, then I would recommend seeing the second one.

Actors: Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ian Mcshane, Ruby Rose, Lance Reddick, Common, John Leguizamo, Thomas Sadoski and many more.
