Snatched (2017) **REVIEW**

On occasion we all like a good funny comedy. Some comedies haven’t really been funny as of lately and that is just the case of ‘Snatched’. Starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, mother/daughter duo.

Emily is someone who does not have anything figured out, she works at a fashion store and gets fired, her boyfriend leaves her just before their trip to Ecuador. Emily travels to her mothers house because she wanted to see her daughter, by the end of the evening. Emily manages to convince her mother to go with her after finding a album of pictures of her mother traveling and going to concerts.

So the girls leave and you can straight off tell that Linda (the mother) is being annoying. She’s being ridicolous towards Emily, you know being overprotective and telling her leaving the hotel to see the culture is the worst thing. So obviously, after Emily finds a man that shows her around he invites her and her mother out to explore some more. And as you might be able to figure it out, it goes sideways from here. Emily and Linda gets kidnapped but they manage to flee, only to be chased by the boss.

Is the film any funny? No. It’s just straight up annoying. Almost like they tried too hard with it. Script was weird and so much over the top. But that is what Amy Schumer is. I find it hard to find her funny in acting comedy films, more into seeing her doing standup stuff. Would I recommend the film? Sorry, no. Don’t waste your time.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer, Trainwreck)
  • Randall Park (The Interview, Trainwreck, Fresh off the Boat)
  • Goldie Hawn (Private Benjamin, Overboard, Death Becomes Her)
  • Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad, Neighbors, The Mindy Project)
  • Wanda Sykes (Monster-in-Law, Evan Almighty, Over the Hedge)
  • Joan Cusack (Working Girl, Toy Story 2, Say Anything)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Jonathan Levine mostly known by writing scripts, couldn’t find much information on who he is. But go and check him over at IMDb

Going in Style (2017) **REVIEW**

When you think about three old timers, three legendary actors starring in same film you’d think it would be a film about some old people being sassy and best friends. How about you think again?

Willie, Joe & Albert and three best friends and pensioners doing everything together, even watching Batchorlette. They are quite adorable together. One day they find out that the steel plant they worked at all their lives are going bankrupt so their pensions are being stopped and all of a sudden, they are about to lose their houses and everything. So.. Joe comes up with an idea after an experience he had at his bank; “how about he rob a bank?”. Yeah like that is going to make it all better? But after a few arguments these old chaps go for it.

They reach out to Joe’s daughters ex-husband who know some people who could possibly help with the preparation of the heist. So much planning and accuracy goes into to the entire thing because we don’t want to get caught right? It’s one wild and stupid plan we got here, will they pull it off?

It’s a really funny film with some of the acting worlds most prestigious and legendary actors. We see Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, Alan Arkin & Christopher Lloyd. Chris sort of plays this pensioner who showing signs of dementia but delivers the one way he only knows how: funny. He is a key person in the chaps story for them to get away with the robbery.

“Going in Style” won’t disappoint you, it’s filled with laugher and all smiles. I say go for it when you are having a bad day, it will cheer you up.

Actors: Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Christopher Lloyd, John Ortiz, Matt Dillon, Joey King and many more.

Netflix Original: The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared (2016) **REVIEW**

‘The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared’ is a comedy coming from Sweden and I found it the other day on Netflix and talk I was happy. As some of you might not know I’m born and raised in Sweden so comedy was a huge part of my life since it’s part of our culture. The main character is a huge comedy actor and one my favorite from home.

‘The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared’ is about a man called Allan Karlsson who was a spy for the Russians and Americans during Cold War. He developed something called Folksoda and now people are looking for him to get the recipe.  So Allan and his friend goes from Bali where the film begins to go to Berlin to pick up the recipe for the Folksoda but ends up in Russia first to then take a train to Berlin. On the plane from Bali to Berlin Allan’s pet friend monkey went into his bag and he got out in the plane caused panic and had to get off in Russia.

So, when it gets out in the world that Allan is alive and Russian woman living in Sweden goes after him (her father worked with Allan during Cold War) and then a British man also goes after him. So when  Allan and his friend travels around to find the recipe to only find it.. well.. not in Berlin. It’s quite funny one and one of my favorite actors – Robert Gustafson – playing Allan. Loved every bit of it.

It’s a Netflix Original film, got happy to find it on the British one, so have a look on your Netflix and see if they added it in your country. Keep in mind – it’s in Swedish so it’s subtitled.

Actors: Robert Gustafsson, Crystal the Monkey, Caroline Boulton, Jens Hulten, Colin McFarlane, Joseph Long, David Schaal, David Wiberg, Georg Nikoloff and many more.

Zootopia (2016) **REVIEW**

When it comes to Disney and Pixar they usually make films lately to explain to children what friendship is, what family is (not always blood) and so on. And they been doing it using animals or aliens. And Zootopia teaches you about friendship and not judging other people based on who they are and where they are from.

Judy, a small little bunny from a faring village outside of the city Zootopia. She got some vivid imagination and as a child she wanted to become a the first bunny police officer. Obviously, people mocked her for her dreams. But once she became an adult it was off to the academy. What happens next? She graduates. Her assignment is; Zootopia. She’s excited but for her parents, they get a little worried. Specially knowing Zootopia got foxes. So they try to give her some fox repellent.

Once on the job, Judy meets a fox, Nick. He seems nice at first wanting to buy an ice cream for his son and she falls for it. Judy gets the assignment of finding missing otter who been missing for 2 weeks and her first lead seems to be Nick. So she goes and find him and black mails him to helping her (kids, never do that). While trying to find the otter they unfold something bigger, a lot of animals from the predator family have gone missing and no one connected the dots until Judy and Nick finds ALL of the missing animals. But why exact;y is a specific kind of animals going insane? It can’t be just DNA, something else must be behind it and Judy is determined to find out why.

‘Zootopia’ is a fantastic film for kids and adults to watch, I love watching it and seen it a few times already. It contains a lot of humor for the adults and kids.

Actors: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence, Bonnie Hunt, J.K Simmons and many more.

Sing (2016) **REVIEW**

Who doesn’t like singing animals who dance around? Well anyone who got dogs or cats videos in their search history. “Sing” is a fun family animation film with singing animals who dance around. We got some famous people lending out their voices for this film such as; Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey, Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Saunders and many more.

“Sing” we meet different characters from different backgrounds, we have a teenager who want to sing but her boyfriend is holding her back, we have a stay at home mom who is under appreciated. A teenage boy who’s dream is to sing but his dad want him to join his robbery gang, another teenager who got stage freight but who’s singing voice will make you go WOW. We have a washed up theater owner who’s dream is to make it big as a theater producer so he comes up with a singing contest. Original prize was to be set on 1.000 dollars but a mistake is made and it’s set on 100.000. The owner is in trouble with the bank that he owns money to so he really need to make this show a hit.

“Sing” must be one of my favourite animation film since Zootopia & Home. Also two film you really need to check out. All three having a message that anyone can relate to. So just sit down with your kids or just yourself, bowl of popcorn or whatever and just enjoy.

Voice actors: Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey, Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Saunders, Tori Kelly, John C Reilly, Seth MacFarlane, Nick Kroll and many many more.

Moana (2016) **REVIEW**

When it comes to Disney they seem to stick with the formula that works, a pretty girl, stubborn hero, saving the world.

“Moana” is based on ancient Polynesian culture, there’s this demigod who steals a goddess heart and this heart is the heart of all creation. So when it go stolen by Maui the world slowly started to crumble, there was no fish to fish, plants dying and Islands becoming inhabitable. When Moana was a little girl the ocean showed her the way her life needed to take, she listened but her father did everything he could to prevent her from leaving the Island her and her tribe lived on. But as a preadult she is starting to see how the Island is dying and she listens once again to her calling, with a little help from her grandmother – the village crazy.

So Moana sets sail to find Maui, the demigod who stole the goddess heart so he could put it back. And it won’t be so easy, since he’s a demigod and still believe he’s everyones hero, even though he stole the heart of all creation. It takes a lot of convincing from Moana to make it happen.

The film got it’s regular cheese platter and as it does have a strong female lead, a woman who saves the world, it’s nothing special about the film. It’s a Disney film. It missed the magic that the Disney films used to have back in the day with Aladdin, Beauty and Beast etc. For me the highlight of “Moana” must have been the chicken, they got a retarded (yes) chicken who well.. he makes the film.

Voice actors: Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement and many more.

Keeping Up With The Joneses (2016) **REVIEW**

Spy comedies.. Yes or no? It’s a very rare thing they manage to hit the right note on these films. So do we have in this film? Neighbours who just moved in a house in a suburb area where everything seems perfect and nothing really happens. We have the couple who seems very interested in the new neighbours and start to investigate and get dragged in to something dangerous.

The Gaffney’s have a typical suburb life. Karen is a interior designer working from home, Jeff works as a HR in a company who makes robotics and they got two boys. This summer they get new neighbours who seems too good to be true – well we all know how this will work out – of course they are too good to be true. And before Karen & Jeff knows it they get sucked in to their world on espionage and action. But even the new neighbours have issues just like any other couple. So who saves who in this film really?

Spy comedies isn’t normally for me and this one was mediocre. It had it’s funny moments but it’s not extremely funny and can be watched during a rainy day and you are out of options.

Actors: Zach Galifianakis, Isla Fisher, Jon Hamm, Gal Gadot, Patton Oswalt, Matt Walsh and many more.
