The Mummy (2017) **REVIEW**

We all remember the classic 1999 action film ‘The Mummy‘ starring Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz in Egypt digging up an old tomb only to find out it’s filled with dangers. It was an amazing film and I love watching it to this day, I strongly remember how it used to creep me out.

This version of ‘The Mummy’ is different. People first thought it would a 100% remake but then it wasn’t a remake. But the trailer for this version didn’t impress me much so I decided to wait to see until I decided not to. I want to see how much different it is from the 1999 classic.

In the beginning of the film we see crusade solders buring one f their own with a red crystal. And then they skip all the way to Ancient Egypt, to a princess called Ahmanet. She was the only heir to the throne, until she wasn’t anymore. Her father met a new woman, she gave birth to a son. Meaning Ahmanet was bumped off the throne and it would go to her brother. Devastated she decided to create a pact with God of Death  – Seth. She became powerful & evil. Killed her father and her brother when they where sleeping. As when she was about to sacrifice a mortal man so Seth could walk the earth in his body, she was intercepted and punished for her deeds. She was sentenced to something worse than death. Her body was taken miles away from Egypt to only be found by Nick Morton & Chris Vail in Mesopotamia now called Iraq.

Nick, Chris and an archeologist named Jenny go down the hole the guys created, she works with the military to bring artifacts to safety so they won’t be destroyed by fanatics. As they go down the hole something isn’t right. Mercury is in the tomb and then they find it… a well filled with mercury. As of stupid Chris and Nick is not listening to the archeologist they decide to bring up whatever it is in that well. She requested for more experts to come but as we know from films, military never listens to experts. Before we know it the thing that was in the well is on a military plane and weird things happen straight off.

The plane crashes in Surrey, England and princess is shortly alive after that, she could feel that her dagger and the stone for it was in England. Nick who died on the plane was all of the sudden not dead. But he was chosen to be the vessel for Seth. So now Nick and Jenny need to work together to destroy the stone so the ritual can’t happen. So now she’s looking for it and she is bringing hell to London. It’s a race against time. Who will get there first?

Is this version of the ‘The Mummy’ any good? It’s okay. Got some really cool special effects but script is mediokre. The only really good thing from the film is Sofia Boutella’s acting. She is playing Ahmanet. I’ve seen her before in different films and she always delivers.

Alien: Covenant (2017) **REVIEW**

Remember when ‘Prometheus’ was released? You could say this is a follow-up. A ship is out in space towards a new colony, they need to be in sleep for about 14 years. But something happens 7 years in their sleep, some of the crew members get waken and now they have to fix the ship. Because on board they have about 2.000 colonisers and 1150 embryos.

But during repairs they pick up a signal, a song  from earth. So they decide to locate the signal and they find someone who’s been missing for 10 years. A scientist named Elizabeth Shaw from the ship Prometheus. They find the robot, David,  she was traveling with and now they have to fight for their lives. As some sort of mist goes in their bodies and few seconds to minutes later something claws it’s way out of the host body and start chasing down other humans.

‘Alien: Covenant’ made people skeptical but after seeing it, it’s actually quite good. Got scares moment and it’s gory as… if you appreciate the ‘Alien’ franchise I’d say you would most likely like this one. We get to find out what happened to Dr Shaw, since last time we saw her she left a planet in a ship to go after someone, been a while since I saw ‘Prometheus’ so I think I’ll have to see it again.

Who are the actors is in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, Assassins Creed, Xmen: Days of future past, Tresspass Against us)
  • Katherine Waterston (Fantstic Beats and where to find them, Steve Jobs, Inherent Vice)
  • Billy Crudup (Watchmen, Almost fmaous, Big Fish)
  • Danny McBride (This is the End, Pineapple Express, Your Highness)
  • Carmen Ejogo ( The Purge: Anarchy, Selma, Away We Go)
  • Jussie Smollett (The Mighty Ducks, The Skinny, North)
  • Callie Hernandez (Lala Land, Blair Witch, Graves)
  • Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color, You’re Next, Sun Don’t Shine)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

We have none other than Ridley Scott. Does his name sound familiar? It should. He’s been behind films such as Blade Runner, Alien, The Martian, Prometheus, Morgan and many many more. He’s born in the United Kingdom, his father was a Royal Engineer, His father encourage him to develop his artistic side and he went into the film industry.

The Circle (2017) **REVIEW**

We live in a era of where social media have a lot of power. Information can be spread like wild fire and we also find out what we all had for dinner. I heard about ‘The Circle’ book and got interested since it’s aspect is the power of social media but then Emma Watson & Tom Hanks was doing a film out of it.

‘The Circle’ is about Mae getting a job at a huge tech company called The Circle, she’s so excited. They provide her with a room to stay. It’s a massive place and basically got all you need within the walls, you never need to leave really. One day as she sits doing her job two people come up o her asking why she hasn’t set up her social media profile yet, it was part of her job to be on social media and talk to co-workers. But one day that backfires when she shares her friends lanterns and he is being called for deer killer. The lanterns are made out of horns but he gets the horns from others who hunt. It goes so far he need to live in woods to hide. Power of social media.

One day Mae agrees to do something I would never do. To always wear a camera to live record her everyday life for everyone to see. It becomes a huge success. But with that also comes pain. She’s starting to lose friends and family due to the fact she can’t talk to them without them feeling uneasy by the constant filming. After her friends death she feels that something is wrong with The Circle and is determined to find out what, for everyone to see and.. to film it all for all her viewers.

Yes, I would say it’s important to see this film and it’s available on Netflix. You see the real power of social media and how quick jump on the band wagon of filming EVERYTHING and put it out there for everyone to see. In the film they believe that information should be available for ALL, all sorts of information. But that, I don’t agree on. It can be dangerous to know absolutely everything. There are some things we should not know, knowing everything doesn’t always mean good.

Actors: Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, Ellar Coltrane, Glenne Headly, Bill Paxton, Karen Gillan, Nate Corddry, Mamoudou Athie, John Boyega and many more.

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) **REVIEW**

We all jumped on the hype when the very first Transformers film was released, we all thought it was awesome. I can say I do miss seeing original actors in the latest ones, specially this one..

‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ we see the world in dismay when it comes to Transformers, they are now considered illegal and to be hunted and killed on sight. Cade Yeager is now a fugitive and living in an Indian reservoir and giving sanctuary to some of the robots. We get to see flashbacks to old England – Camelot, King Arthur & Merlin. Yeager travels to England after being sent for, a secret society have kept the Transformers secret for CENTURIES. descendants from the knights of Camelot. We also get to see the robots home world and that thing isn’t pretty or nice. So that world is travelling to our world to destroy it to become more powerful.

As always, we get to see an epic battle, last descendant from Merlin himself. More Transformers we haven’t seen before to fight next to everyone. And at the end, they gave a hint that it might be another film. ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ was a good film but by now they are predictable. You get scenes that are absolutely funny due to Anthony Hopkins and his feisty, psycho robot. They where a fresh air.

Other than all that, yes it was a good action film but not one of their best ones.

Actors: Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock, Isabela Moner, Stanley Tucci and many more.

Power Rangers (2017) **REVIEW**

If you came here looking for a good review of the remake of ‘Power Rangers’, I am sorry but I am about to disappoint you. As a child of around 6/7 years old we world got to meet the TV show ‘Power Rangers’ and I was HOOKED. Didn’t take long before my school told EVERY student we wasn’t allowed to watch it because of the violence but knowing my mother, she didn’t listen and let me watch it instead because she knew I could separate fiction from reality. Very quickly ‘Power Rangers’ became a big part of my childhood and I never missed one episode. So when I heard about a remake turning film I didn’t exactly know what to do or say. But I was willing to give it a chance. The trailer looked super cool when it was released.

‘Power Rangers’ is about a bunch of misfit kids who met each other in abnormal circumstances, to quickly realize they got super powers after finding stones. To then find out about a group of heroes called Power Rangers and it’s been 65 million years since last Power Rangers. Their job is to protect a crystal from Rita Repulsa, also known as the green Power Ranger – uhuh, a Power Ranger turned evil. The kids have a hard time dealing with her but you know in the end bla bla CLICHE!

I had a really hard time adjusting to this remake, it had cool effects and we got to see the comedian Elisabeth Banks as the villian Rita & Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as Zordon. That was quite fun. But the film as a whole – don’t waste your time. If you want a better remake let me suggest Ghostbusters? I was really disappointed that the creators of the new ‘Power Rangers’ didn’t give us the wow factor or a nostalgia trip, not for me. I’d rather watch the original version from the 90’s and laugh the horrible effects but loving it because it was part of my childhood.

Actors: Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Becky G, Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader and many more.

Life (2017) **REVIEW**

When it comes to films about aliens it can either be a hit or a serious miss. It’s difficult to make something like this good. Because there are so many alien films out there already so most have already been done! When I saw the trailer for ‘Life’ I was skeptical, it didn’t seem too good but I took a chance and thought maybe it could be good.

We got a team of scientist floating in space in an International Space Station looking for life in space, one day they find something and people back on Earth rejoices. The scientist begin to poke and prod on the creature, it seems cute because of its size. But you know, looks can be VERY deceiving though. One day they prodded it too far and it started to fight back. It grabs one of the scientist hand and breaks it, really uncomfortable too see. There is something about this life form that will creep you out – more people it kills and feeds on – yep feeds on – the bigger it gets and it can get terrifying. Now the scientist are fighting for their life and every trick they tried to kill the creature, it didn’t work, just made it more angry.

‘Life’ had it surprises, both good and bad one. I’ve seen very split reviews about ‘Life’ but I got creeped out by it. It isn’t like other alien films, I felt that this one is more realistic than the other alien films out there. And I would recommend it to anyone who would like to see it. It’s not too bad actually.

Actors: Hiroyuki Sanada, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, Jesus Del Orden and many more.

Wonder Woman (2017) **REVIEW**

When it comes to DC I always been a bit iffy. When I heard ‘Wonder Woman’ was going to  get a remake and Gal Gadot (Fast and the furious) was going to play Diana I was thrilled, she’s a good actress. When I walked into the cinema screen this weekend I walked in with an open mind and not expecting much, I been very disappointed in past about remakes.

At the start we see Diana as a small child sneaking to see the warriors train, she wants nothing more to train herself and is seen mimic their moves. Her aunt Antiope, the general of Amazon warriors, decides to train her behind Diana’s mother – Amazon Queen. Until Diana’s early/mid teen her mother catches them training and then she decides to let Diana get trained, harder than anyone. Diana grows up to be the best warrior but still get easily distracted.

So, when Diana is standing by a cliff she see’s an airplane crashing into the water, she saves the pilot – Steve. Shortly after the island where the Amazons are gets a visit from the Germans and most of them dies in the attack because they got new weapons that Amazons never seen before – guns. So you know guns VS swords and bows, I am sure you can guess which one would win when the enemy got a distance. But the Amazons wins with a little help from Steve. But the ladies isn’t convinced that he is a good one but Diana want to help him after he describes the outside world an she wants to help, convinced Aries is behind the World War 2. Her mother allows her to leave, so Diana does knowing she might never be able to return home to her mother.

Diana goes out in the World War 2, helping people with the help of 3 men. She is seeing 2 sides of men, the good one and the bad one. Still convinced Aries is behind it at all and thinking a German general is Aries, she is ruthless and goes after him, but little did she know, she already met Aries, but he makes his presence known by the end, where we get introduced to him and we see who he is. And I promise, it’s ALWAYS the last person you’d ever think it would be.

But is ‘Wonder Woman’ a good film for this generation of young ladies? I’d say so. Diana is a kickass warrior who can take care of herself, she speaks over 100 languages and she won’t walk away from a fight, she stays and she wins. A good statement to show young ladies today. Myself is a little like her, I don’t speak 100 languages, I speak 2 – both fluent. I don’t walk away with the smallest sign of difficulty. I would recommend to go and see and see ‘Wonder Woman’ today with your friends, nieces, sisters why not go and see it with your male friends, brothers, nephews? Anyone can see this and leave feeling ready to take on anything. Gal Gadot did a amazing job as ‘Wonder Woman’ and I can’t wait to see more of her version of Diana.

Actors: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Said Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner, Eugene Brave Rock and many more.
