Geostorm (2017) **REVIEW**

Weather movies.. love them or hate them, Hollywood have spewed out quite a few of them over the years and  this one no different but with one little small difference. When I first heard about “Geostorm” I thougth ‘FFS, can’t they make anything original anymore? Another weather disaster movie coming’ and oh boy was I right.

We got a scientist played by Gerard Butler, Jake Lawson. He and 600 other scientists invented something that could stop disastrous weather. Cool. Awesome. But.. someone managed to hack it and now it’s attacking earth. They placed it in space. And you know that is never a good idea.

Jake and his brother Max, who also works with this program, is now working together trying to figure out who hacked the space thing that is now attacking earth and killing millions of people with weird weathers. Jake is up in space and his brother is on earth. It all end up with Max kidnapping the president to get kill codes for the space ship(!?) so they can stop the weather to attack.

I have to say.. ‘Geostorm’. Not the greatest film I’ve seen. Sure it got some really cool effects when it comes to the weather but that’s about it. Movie itself is a bit cringe. Would I recommend it? Uhm.. no I wouldn’t. If you want to see a movie with cool effects yeah sure, see it. But here is 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back. I have to say I got a little disappointed. But there’s been so much weather disaster movies in the past that not every single one will hold up.

Black Panther (2018) **REVIEW**

Before we get into this review I just want to point out a few things here. I’ve seen people (mostly tech people) complaining that the tech in this movie isn’t “real” enough, so let me just say; it’s called Scifi for a damn reason.

I’ve been really excited to see this and went to Valentine’s Day to see it and it was fantastic. Actors did a great job, graphic effect are flawless. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about ‘Black Panther’. So with that..

After the attack at UN in Vienna, T’Challa is now on his way home to Wakanda for get crowned. As he is about to start his first few days as king it’s already proven to be difficult. As T’Challa finds out a man who attacked their nation and killed many is crawling out of his hole and making himself known. He embarks to find him but.. he isn’t the real enemy he need to worry about. There’s a man with a hidden agenda, his name is Erik.

As an agent of CIA is about to find about that Wakanda isn’t as poor as the world seem to think, Erik demands trial by combat for the throne. This confuses a few of the elders but it got proven he is the child of T’Challa’s uncle. So this complicates things. Erik isn’t just out for the throne he is also out for blood, world-wide damage if you will. Because what he is about to do next might just be one of the dumbest he can do instead of helping, he want’s to destroy. Some of the tribes in Wakanda get’s forced to help Erik but others do it volunteered

As we see some brilliant acting skills from Chadwick Boseman, Michael B Jordan, Danai Gurira and many more. (A few faces you will recognize in the movie) They will also get you to feel what they feel. Emotional roller coaster throughout the movie. We get to see some nerve chilling action scenes mixed some GREAT humor, they will deliver some real sassyness from the female characters.  I would recommend to see ‘Black Panther’ 10/10 times.

They managed to get me laughing, feeling sad with them, anxious, nervous and relief. I can’t wait to see more of the characters from ‘Black Panther’ in ‘Avangers: Infinity War’

Netflix Original: The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) **REVIEW**

If you are a horror movie fan then you have most likely seen the very first Cloverfield movie when it came out back in 2008. Now 10 years later we get to find out why those monsters came to see us. Why they ended up here. And let me tell you, it’s a good one.

A group of scientists are in space to test a device that might be the answer to the world’s energy crisis. But something went wrong during testing. The powerful device pushed them into a new dimension opening up a door to the monsters for them to come over to our Earth. But it takes the scientists a while to figure out what’s going on. Soon they will find themselves freaking out and the ship being different. They find someone stuck inside their walls, quite gruesome. They soon are turning themselves against each other, trying to get home and fix their mistake that their dimension might suffer, like the monsters.

Watch the scientist going against  number of scientific unexplainable happening while fighting against a stranger on their ship that they found inside the walls.

I have to admit, there where times I had to pause it a few times because I got a bit bored time to time and became busy to check my emails and twitter so a lot of rewinding happened. But it’s all good. Over all the story was good. Just because I got bored with it doesn’t mean you will be so hop over to Netflix and watch it today.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) **REVIEW**

The movie we been waiting for is finally here, the fans get to see if their theories are right. I have to say; ‘The Last Jedi’ was quite good in story line but the rest had me thrown off. We found out who Rey’s parents was, not what I was expecting, they aren’t important to the Star Wars story. But we did get to see what really happened between Kylo & Luke.

‘The Last Jedi’ begins where ‘The Force Awakens’ ended. We see Rey with Luke at the Jedi Island. She’s trying to convince him to come with her to help in the fight but he is straight up refusing. Not until he notices her powers. Remember when Luke was younger he was told about the last Jedi and he always thought it was himself? Yeah.. No. Luke decides to help Rey understand her powers and he tells her the story. Rey and Kylo have a bond where they can communicate no matter where they are. Both Luke and Kylo gave her each a side of a story. So question is, which side is true?

At the same time, Finn and Rose goes on to a quest to find a lock master, someone who can open any lock in the galaxy to help with them with a dangerous quest. No win the war they have to disarm the protection shield inside a mother ship. So you can guess this won’t exactly be easy for the two.

This is where ‘The Last Jedi’ gets a tad messy. It basically holds 3 stories in one film so it’s easy to get confused. Don’t get me wrong, the movie is good, story line is good but… just something about the film as a whole that’s just… not right me. I didn’t understand what others where talking about after they saw the film but after seeing it, I can now see why.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Mark Hamill – Luke Skywalker ( Star Wars, Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero,The Flash )
  • Carrie Fisher – Leia Organa ( Star Wars, Family Guy, Catastrophe, Smallville )

  • Oscar Isaac – Poe Dameron ( Suburbicon, The Promise, XMen-Apocalypse, A Most Violent Year )
  • Andy Serkins – Snoke ( Lord of the Rings, War for the Planet of the Apes, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Death of a Superhero, Brighton Rock )

Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets (2017) **REVIEW**

‘Valerian’ being based of a book it’s hard making films from a book. Pressure is on for the fans will be the real critics. I haven’t read the book because I don’t read that much. As I have seen different reviews of the movie I thought to see it for myself and see of they are right.

In the beginning when City of Thousand Planets was just a regular satellite in space, it merged with others to and with time most nations from Earth had merged. Shortly after that, other life signs started showing up and they merged too. But one problem emerged, It started to become large and heavy so it slowly was getting dragged towards the Earths surface. To save Earth from massive casualty they decided to put engines on it and let it float in space to represent every species around the Universe. Fast forward a a couple centuries… Valerian and his Sergeant Lauraline is chilling on a mock beach when they get a call for a mission. As they are doing the mission in the most trippy environment you can see hints of the story line. But they manage to finish off their mission and get back to City of Thousand Planets.

Upon arrival they get news something hazardous is in the centre of it, they sent in soldiers but no one come back out. We find out what when a General is working on a side project behinds everyone’s back. Valerian & Luraline gets the job to find out what’s going after that they been breached during a meeting with Ambassadors, one of the key General was kidnapped. So now they go on a journey inside the planet to find him but at the same time, they discover the horrible truth about the project.

Storyline in itself it good but acting of Cara Delevingne is…meh. I’ve seen better. I mostly got irked by her horrible American accent. She could have spent more time on that accent to be honest.  Dane DeHaan playing Valerian did a great job on the acting part. We see some familiar faces in the film and throughout. Would I rewatch it? Probably not.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Dane Dehaan – Valerian (The Amazing Spider-Man, A Cure for Wellness, Chronicle)

  • Sam Spruell – General Okto-Bar (Snow White and the Huntsman, Taken 3, k-19: The Widowmaker, The Hurt Locker)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) **REVIEW**

There has been so many different Spider-Man movies starting with Tobey Maguire, he was a good one and he sparked my love for Spider-Man. Then we got Andrew Garfield, maybe not the best choice. Amazing Spider-Man movies wasn’t bad at all in itself but Andrew Garfield, I don’t know. Then we got the latest one – Tom Holland. I was a skeptic but when I saw a preview of Tom’s Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War I got interested and couldn’t wait to see the Spider-Man film. And I finally got to see Homecoming.

Peter, an awkward teen and got just as an awkward best friend. He lives with his aunt May, she cares for him and is great with him. But Peter got a little secret he keeps from everyone, well we aren’t actually strangers to Peter’s secret. But the way his best friends finds out is epic in itself. Peter sneaks in to his room after coming home after curfew, waiting on him in his room is his best friend, Ned. Jumping down from the ceiling he turns around and there stands Ned. And that moment is quite comedic.

Peter being quite curious he starts investigating on why some strange weapons have come up, it can destroy an entire building. Weapons being made from material that comes from the space attack from Avengers when Loki attacked earth. As the same time he is trying to figure out who is making the weapons and why, he is trying to date the girl he’s been crushing on for a while. So how is he going to date this girl and save New York at the same time.

Also this thing about he wanting to prove himself so he can become an official member of The Avengers.. Tony Stark helped with giving Peter a full designed suit that will help him with his adventures. But after Civil War, Peter is desperate to prove himself for Stark and become an Avenger. So how is this actually going to work out?

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a quite funny film just like how the very first one with Tobey. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is cheeky, charming and funny. Tom managed to nail the character of Peter Parker just right. At least to me.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Tom Holland – Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Captain America: Civil War, The Lost City of Z, In The Heart of the Sea)
  • Michael Keaton – Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Batman, Spotlight, Batman Returns, Birdman, American Assassin)
  • Robert Downey JR – Tony Stark/Iron Man (Iron Man, Avengers, Chef, Sherlock Holmes)
  • Marisa Tomei – May Parker (The Wrestler, The Lincoln Lawyer, Crazy Stupid Love, The Rewrite)
  • Jon Favreau – Happy Hogan (Iron Man, Chef, Entourage, The Wolf of Wall Street)
  • Zendaya – Michelle (Shake it Up, Zapped, Kc Undercover)
  • Donald Glover – Aaron Davis (The Martian, Community, Mystery Team, Magic Mike XXL)
  • Jacob Batalon – Ned (North Woods, Blood Fest, more to come)
  • Martin Starr – Mr Harrington (Knocked Up, This is the End, Silicon Valley)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Jon Watts born in California and known for some films such as Eugene, The Fuzz, Cop Car, Jewish Santa is coming etc.

Netflix Original: Before I Wake (2016)

When it comes to Netflix Originals it’s so easy for it to be a hit or miss. They produce a lot of films and tv-shows lately but much of it isn’t watchable or little bit interesting. I been having my eye on ‘Before I Wake’ for a while now and since it’s almost horror I thought I’d give it a try. The film reminded me a lot about the horror movie ‘Mama’ – where 2 children are found in the woods in a shack, been kept alive by a ghost called Mama and she protects them. ‘Before I Wake’ is a lot like that.

Jessie & Mark lost their child in an accident happened at home, he drowned in the bathtub. Trying to heal they decide to become foster parents to a little boy called Cody. This little boy is a special one. He’s kind, sweet and so polite. But there is something very dark about him. When he falls asleep his dreams come true. Regular dreams and nightmare a like. At first Jessie takes advantage of this because when Cody dreams, their son appears. So she wants to see him, drugs Cody so he sleeps but he doesn’t like sleeping. Bad things tend to happen when he does. A figure appears but he doesn’t tell anyone until Cody starts screaming in his sleep, Jessie and Mark run to him to see what’s wrong and that’s when they see it. What happens when he truly sleeps. So now they have to fight to keep him and for their lives, Jessie does some research to learn more about her foster son.

Like I said previously, a lot of the aspects of the film reminded me about the horror ‘Mama’. You will understand why if you see the film. It’s a Netflix Original so you’ll find it in that category on Netflix.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Kate Bosworth – Jessie (SuperMan Returns, Still Alice, 21, Blue Crush)
  • Thomas Jane – Mark (The Mist: Movie, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher, Face/Off)
  • Jacob Tremblay – Cody (The Book of Henry, The Smurfs 2, Room)
  • Annabeth Gish – Natalie (Grass Stains, Team Life, Scandal, The Sons of Anarchy)
  • Hunter Wenzel – Tate (Gilmore Girls: A Year in Life, South of Hell)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

The director of this movie is Mike Flanagan, born in Salem, Massachusetts. As a child he would relocate often as his father was a U.S Coast Guard, as a child he would shoot and edit his own shorts on VHS and that continued when he attended high school and was in drama department. He’s done a lot of films during his career and if you enjoy horror then you might have seen some of his work: Oculus, HUSH, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Cold Harbor and many more.
