The Ritual (2017) **REVIEW**

Have you ever wanted to go hiking in the Scandinavian mountain side? There’s some real gorgeous landscape. Air is fresh and crisp. Non-polluted creeks. It’s a dream. And that is what a group of friends thought too. Until it wasn’t.

5 friends – Luke, Phil, Hutch, Dom & Robert – sitting in a pub and trying to discuss where to go on a lads trip. Robert gave the suggestion going on a hiking trip to Sweden. The rest of the group laughed and they left the pub still discussing where to go. They stop by a convenient store and 2 of them go inside but to only walk right into a robbery in progress. One hides and other gets his head slashed in half. Sounds brutal and the scene is brutal too.

Now.. 4 of the friends are on a hiking trip in Sweden in the memory of their dead friend. You can tell that the chemistry in the group are quite tense. They walking up the mountains and look at the map, one of them seeing a shortcut through the forest below. They where soon going to regret that decision.

As they are confused and disgusted they decide to keep going. Starting raining like crazy they find a cabin in the woods and decide to go inside. Nothing strange will happen here right? WRONG! As they are warming up and waking up next day with nightmares. But these dreams seem a little too real. They shake it off and decide to keep walking so they can leave the forest. But nothing is so simple. Something is following them after their stay in the cabin. Only matter of time before something bad starts to happen and its tearing the group apart and this thing, takes advantage of it.

‘The Ritual’ is based on the book written by Adam Nevill. I didn’t know it was a good book til recently but I have put an order in and waiting for the book. Excited to read it.

This movie is a very detailed horror movie with guts and blood so if you are sensitive, don’t watch it. But ‘The Ritual’ was really good. One of the best horror films I’ve seen in a while. It’s currently on Netflix but not in Latin America & UK so I would suggest see if you can rent it but I went on and bought. After seeing this my faith in horror movies for upcoming year have been restored.

Netflix Original: Step Sisters (2018) **REVIEW**

If you ever seen ‘Pitch Perfect’ or ‘Drumline’ and loved it then you would love ‘Step Sisters’. Same creators who wrote and directed ‘Pitch Perfect’ and ‘Drumline’ created ‘Step Sisters’ and this one surprised me in  good way. It’s funny, clever and the clap back the movie contains are absolutely perfect.

Jamilah, a well accomplished young college girl with a bright future. She works part-time in the Dean’s office. She’s the President of her sorority, captain of the sorority’s Stepping team. Her plans are to go to Harvard Law with her boyfriend. She got her entire life figured out until it’s about to get a little turned upside down.

Jamilah is friends with another girl from a different sorority house, Beth, a spunky girl with lots of humor. She agrees to go with Beth to her sorority party thinking it might be safe and gets ‘white girl drunk’, she’s having fun until a girl from said sorority is caught having sex in the bushes, it gets filmed and spread on the internet. So now, this sorority is on the verge of getting disbarged, UNLESS… Jamilah help them with a charity step contest so she can get her Harvard Law recommendation from the Dean who’s a alumni.

As she trains the girls she also noticing some set back with her boyfriend and with other girls from sorority she’s trying to help. They aren’t exactly taking it seriously. And then… all of the sudden.. picture’s from Jamilah’s drunken night gets leaked and here’s where all goes to shit. Jamilah loses her job, her boyfriend – well she left him, she loses her own sorority by them being judgemental about white girls doing Step. Jamilah decides to leave the college and continue her last class online. But then truth comes out of who leaked the photo’s and I have to say… no surprise but Jamilah’s reaction is the best.

‘Step Sisters’ are one of the funniest I’ve seen. We see girls coming together to save their house. With some minor setbacks. ‘Step Sisters’ is a film anyone can see really, well I’d say no children because alcohol and sexual references. If you would need a cheer me up, then this one is definitely recommended.

The Great Wall (2016) **REVIEW**

‘The Great Wall’ isn’t just a chinese fast food place I order frequently from it’s also a very good film starring Matt Damon. There are a lot of legends about what the wall of China was used for, what it’s protecting and ‘The Great Wall’ is one of those films that tells one of those legends.

A the film begins we see a group of men running from a tribe in China, being chased and killed, picked off one by one. They manage to shake them off an hide in the mountains. As there are a few men left sitting by the fire, all of the sudden something comes for them, sneaking and snatching them, one by one they fall. William (Matt Damon) kills one of them, get’s a foot as a trophy. He and his friend Tovar rides and ends up by a large wall, they obviously get’s captured but they show the large army the foot they have and all of the sudden, the leaders of the army seems intrigued by them. Shortly after that, we get to see what exactly they are fighting and now William and Tovar have a choice to make, fight along side them or stay hidden. Because, this army won’t let them leave because they have seen what they are fighting and it needs to be kept a secret from the outside world.

‘The Great Wall’ is much better than you might think, give it a chance and watch it. If you like some cool fighting scenes, awesome visual effects and people in some kickass armors then trust me, this film is for you.

Actors: Matt Damon, Tian Jing, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau, Pedro Pascal, Hanyu Zhang, Lu Han and many more.

The Conjuring 2 (2016) **REVIEW**

Ed and Lorraine are known for investigating the paranormal as Lorraine can contact the dead and see them. They did an investigation of Amityville and that put them right in the public eye. As for when they were asked to help out a little girl in England and this haunting was one of the most diabolical and evil they encountered.

The second part of The Conjuring the meet Ed and Lorraine once more and this time, they are being asked to help out  in Enfield, England. A case that got a lot of attention in media. And this story is based on a true story. You can read various stories about that hunting by clicking HERE!

England in 1977 so much was going on the country but this one family: Hodgson’s family had a very difficult time. Their 11-year-old was subdued to an evil in the house. A single mom taking care of 4 children on her own, they are struggling in many ways and those families are very vulnerable to the paranormal. At first an expert are saying she is faking it because the paranormal isn’t true. Ed and Lorraine tell a different story. Janet is the 11-year-old girl who is being the victim in this story. First no one believes her until herself and her siblings are being levitated and thrown across the room. At first we think it’s only one spirit but throughout the film we get clues. Clues that are easy to miss. Something else is blocking visions for Lorraine, she can’t see or feel what’s in this house.

Questions is, how on earth are they going to help this family without getting seriously hurt? If a paranormal entity is this powerful to block it all from Lorraine, then who or more what are we dealing with? It all started with a game of Ouija. Lesson here is – DON’T!

Actors: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Madison Wolfe, Frances O’Connor, Simon McBurney, Franka Potente and many more.

Bastille Day (2016) **REVIEW**

I’ve been a huge fan of Idris Elba since I saw Beast of no Nation of Netflix. And when I saw the trailer of this film I got a little excited. I like seeing him in different roles, the man can act. And if you haven’t seen him any film or TV series yet, you really should. The man is talented.

Bastille Day is a pretty good movie far as action goes but little weak on the story line. Bastille Day got some good actors. Over all, it’s a decent film and worth a watch. You can watch it once and that’s about it.

Bastille Day is about a CIA agent played by Mr Elba and his job is to catch a nobody pocket picker Michael Mason after he was seen at a bomb seen. Now, what happened here was Mason stole a bag from a woman who seemed stressed and he didn’t find anything of value in the bag so he tossed it and three-seconds after he tossed it, a bomb goes off. So of course he runs away and now Sean Briar from CIA is after him only to find out, Mason wasn’t the guy behind the bomb. So who was? You get to see scenes  with a few bad guys and here is your job to make out who they are because their identities will become clear to you later in the film and why they are doing what they are doing.

After you see the film you will realize how easy it is to make people do what you want, if you want to cause a riot. Make a bomb and pin it on the muslims. Like it happened in the film and see the chaos unfold.

So Sean Briar, Michael Mason is now set to find the woman whose bag Mason stole to work together while they are being chased by the bad guys and they are shooting on sight since Madden have been stamped as a terrorist, since he was seen on the scene of the bomb and now authorizes believe he is the guy they are looking for. So Briar, Mason and the lady who’s bag got stolen are now working together to get evidence that Madden is innocent.

Actors: Idris Elba, Richard Madden, Kelly Reilley, Charlotte Le Bon, Anatol Yusef, Jose Garcia, Eriq Ebouaney and many more.

Spotlight (2015) **REVIEW**

A lot happened in 2001 that had the world shaken up. But there was one thing that happened in Boston that had the city shaken and then the country.

Spotlight is based on a true story on how Boston Globe uncovered a web of lies and child abuse within the Catholic Church. We follow 5 journalists and their work to uncover the truth. We see the ups and downs. The unwillingness if the church to cooperate, they rather sweep it under the rug, they prefer to put the priest in a different parish and have him doing it again and keep shoving him around rather than handle it as it should.

During their investigation one of the journalists find a priest living in his neighbourhood, a priest who’s on a list who molested children. How do you react to that? As they all are trying to keep their cool and find all documents they need and doing all the interviews they find themselves feeling heavy, losing sleep. As they find one lawyer who is willing to work with them and tell them how to find documents but the church will try and grab those documents before anyone else to bury it. People been trying to speak out before but church got to them first and asked them to keep quiet.

So it’s key for these journalists to work quietly so the piece will become bigger and they unravel as much as 90 priests in Boston alone who was under suspicion of child abuse. Their road is long and being there for the victims is key to the journalists to get the right story told.

Actors: Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Brian d’Arcy James, Stanley Tucci, Gene Amoroso and many more.
