Leatherface (2017) **REVIEW**

We all know the story about leatherface, what he did and how he got arrested with his family for the crimes they committed. But do we know what happened before that? ‘Leatherface’ takes us on a journey of a young leatherface and how he came to be. Was he always such an animal or did his family create him?

We start by seeing a young Jed on his birthday, being given a chainsaw and his present was to hurt his neighbor who was ‘stealing’ their pigs. Jed didn’t want to hurt the man but his family told him to. Same when he tricked a young woman, injured her greatly but his brother killed her off with a engine falling on her. And she was the sheriffs daughter so, Jed gets taken away from his parents into a home for kids from criminal homes.

Fast forward a few years til teens and we have a young man Jed in a institution. At first you don’t know it’s him but the hints are there due to his reaction to violence. Jed’s mother breaks into the fascility he’s being held, starts shouting and that creates a riot. Care takers, nurses and doctors killed. Dangerous teens escaped. Including Jed, who ran off with 3 others from that place including a young nurse who just started her job. These 4 take her on a journey that won’t soon forget. If she gets out of alive.

‘Leatherface’ was a quite good story. I wasn’t impressed but I wasn’t disappointed either. Somewhere in the middle. But if you are a fan of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ this one is a must for you to see how it all began.

Amityville: The Awakening (2017) **REVIEW**

Amityville, we all have heard the story sometime in our lives or seen the movies. Something really bad happened there that is difficult to explain. The Amityville house just stands there, no one living in it cause of the bad spirits in it. Bad? Okay, evil as they come.

Joan is a single mother with 3 children, one of them is her comatose son, who she wishes to be better. So she takes her children and moves to Long Island where better doctors are in hopes to make him better. But there’s one thing she didn’t tell her oldest daughter, the house they now live in is the Amityville house. Where gruesome murders happened in late 60’s supposedly with help of demonic spirits.

But Joan being sad and can’t accept the accident that put her son in the coma she think the house can help him get better. Without believing the consequences that might happen. She just wants him better. So its’ up Belle, the oldest, to prove her mother wrong and help her sick brother.

‘Amityville: The Awakening’ wasn’t much scary to be fully honest with you. Had 1 or 2 jump scares. Story line is VERY predictable. I wouldn’t waste my time watching this film again.

Netflix Original: 1922 (2017) **REVIEW**

It’s been a incredible year for the horror king himself; Stephen King. We seen The Mist, IT and now Netflix is dropping some Mr King stuff and we have ‘1922’ coming out first. What got my attention with this is the story itself. It’s not a long film but oh boy it is a good one.

It’s 1922, Wilfred is a farmer who is doing a good job with help with his son Henry. His wife Arlette hates the farm and want to sell some land, and obviously Wilfred isn’t exactly too keen on that idea. So he gets a ‘brilliant’ idea of starting to turn their son against his mother. One day, out of the blue, Wilfred agrees with his wife to his wife’s idea to sell some land to get money. He gets her drunk, Wilfred ad Henry carries her to bed. And that is when things goes south. Both of them kills Arlette, in her sleep. To avoid selling some land. She was  going to sell anyway without her husbands say so.

Wil and Henry now gets rid of the body and all the evidence of her blood. They are making it look like she took off with a suitcase of clothes and their savings. Everything seems aright so far but then Wil starting to notice some things going around the house. He see’s silhouettes of his wife and lot’s of rats coming everywhere. Some would say this is guilt playing him some tunes or is it an actual haunting taking place?

‘1922’ is a little slow but the story in itself is really good and I would recommend anyone to head over to Netflix and see it right now. You won’t be disappointed. Actors are incredible and so is the story.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Thomas Jane – Wilfred James (The Mist, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher Face/Off)

Netflix Original: The Babysitter (2017) **REVIEW**

Babysitters… you love having one or you don’t. I never really had a babysitter growing up but I had family members looking after me when mom was working. But it never went as wrong as the babysitter in this Netflix Original.

Cole is a awkward 12 year old boy but his babysitter is the coolest. She seems to be his first crush on a girl. She’s very cute towards him and treats him like a brother. Cole’s parents are going away for the weekend so Bee is coming to look after him for the weekend. Have you ever stayed awake after dark to see what the babysitter does while you are sleeping? That is what Cole did but.. maybe he shouldn’t have done that.

Bee have friends over, they are playing ‘spin the bottle’, so what can go wrong here? Well.. Maybe when Bee stabs one of the boys in the head with 2 knives. Him being the sacrifice they need to make an offer to Lucifer to get what they want. How would you react as a 12 year old seeing all this? To only find out, they need your blood so make the ritual complete!? Do you fight or do you run and hide?

‘The Babysitter’ is a comedy horror film, I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve seen but it got its moments of fun and cringing moments.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Judah Lewis – Cole (Demolition)
  • Samara Weaving – Bee (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Mayhem, Monster Trucks,Bad Girl)
  • Robbie Amell – Max (The Flash, ARQ, Anatomy of the Tide, The Duff)
  • Hana Mae Lee – Sonya (Pitch Perfect, Better Things, Unleashed)

Netflix Original: Before I Wake (2016)

When it comes to Netflix Originals it’s so easy for it to be a hit or miss. They produce a lot of films and tv-shows lately but much of it isn’t watchable or little bit interesting. I been having my eye on ‘Before I Wake’ for a while now and since it’s almost horror I thought I’d give it a try. The film reminded me a lot about the horror movie ‘Mama’ – where 2 children are found in the woods in a shack, been kept alive by a ghost called Mama and she protects them. ‘Before I Wake’ is a lot like that.

Jessie & Mark lost their child in an accident happened at home, he drowned in the bathtub. Trying to heal they decide to become foster parents to a little boy called Cody. This little boy is a special one. He’s kind, sweet and so polite. But there is something very dark about him. When he falls asleep his dreams come true. Regular dreams and nightmare a like. At first Jessie takes advantage of this because when Cody dreams, their son appears. So she wants to see him, drugs Cody so he sleeps but he doesn’t like sleeping. Bad things tend to happen when he does. A figure appears but he doesn’t tell anyone until Cody starts screaming in his sleep, Jessie and Mark run to him to see what’s wrong and that’s when they see it. What happens when he truly sleeps. So now they have to fight to keep him and for their lives, Jessie does some research to learn more about her foster son.

Like I said previously, a lot of the aspects of the film reminded me about the horror ‘Mama’. You will understand why if you see the film. It’s a Netflix Original so you’ll find it in that category on Netflix.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Kate Bosworth – Jessie (SuperMan Returns, Still Alice, 21, Blue Crush)
  • Thomas Jane – Mark (The Mist: Movie, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher, Face/Off)
  • Jacob Tremblay – Cody (The Book of Henry, The Smurfs 2, Room)
  • Annabeth Gish – Natalie (Grass Stains, Team Life, Scandal, The Sons of Anarchy)
  • Hunter Wenzel – Tate (Gilmore Girls: A Year in Life, South of Hell)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

The director of this movie is Mike Flanagan, born in Salem, Massachusetts. As a child he would relocate often as his father was a U.S Coast Guard, as a child he would shoot and edit his own shorts on VHS and that continued when he attended high school and was in drama department. He’s done a lot of films during his career and if you enjoy horror then you might have seen some of his work: Oculus, HUSH, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Cold Harbor and many more.

IT (2017) **REVIEW**

Back in 1990 they released a TV-mini-series about a killer clown who preys on children to eat them. Some got really scared of clowns due to it. IT is based on the book from the popular horror author Stephen King.

When I heard they where doing a reboot of IT and it would hit cinemas as a shorter version. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical but I ended up liking it, a lot. It had scary moments, they did a good job with th clown. Pennywise is a little graphic in this version, we get to see him take a bite and children with no arms. But the new version really does work. I don’t know why some people feel like complaining saying it’s 100% crap. It’s just more graphic than the one from 1990.

Bill, Ben, Beverly, Mike, Richie, Eddie &  Stanley are unlikely friends but they are the ‘Losers Club’ as they call themselves. A few bullied kids who stick together as friends against their abusers. 3 older kids who like to pick on younger ones – brave. One of the bullies have a really horrible father and when you see the scene of him giving his revenge to his father, you will almost cheer.

But the kids are being terrorized by a demon who can shapeshift into anything that people are scared of. Mainly children that goes missing and no one seems to be wanting to search for them, except the ‘Losers Club’. More investigating they do, more terrorized they get and one day, one of them goes missing and that’s when they decide to go after this ting, one of them, Bill, got a fair good reason to wanting go after it – he took his little brother. But can you kill this thing?

We see Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, most wasn’t happy about it but give him a chance. He is absolutely amazing. Doesn’t surprise considering he comes from a family of actors – his dad and two older brothers. One is in Vikings and other was in True Blood. You also can see Bill in Hemlock Grove on Netflix.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Jaeden Lieberher – Bill Denbrough (Midnight Special, St Vincent, Aloha)
  • Jeremy Ray Taylor – Ben Hanscom  (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Ant-Man, 42)
  • Sophia Lillis – Beverly Marsh (The Garden, 37, A Midsummer Nights Dream)
  • Finn Wolfhard – Richie Tozier (Stranger Things, Sonora)
  • Chosen Jacobs – Mike Hanlon (Hawaii Five-O, Cops and Robbers, Remnants)
  • Jack Dylan Grazer – Eddie Kaspbrak (Tales of Halloween, Scales)
  • Wyatt Oleff – Stanley Uris (Guardians of the Galaxy, Once Upon a Time, </scorpion>)
  • Bill Skarsgård – Pennywise (Simple Simon, Atomic Blonde, Allegiant)
  • Nicholas Hamilton – Henry Bowers (Captain Fantastic, The Dark Tower, Strangerland)
  • Jake Sim – Belch Huggings (Raising Expectations, The Magic Hockey Skates, Arthur)
  • Logan Thompson – Victor Criss (Fear Thy Neighbor, Sports Lab)
  • Owen Teague – Patrick Hockstetter (Bloodline)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Andy Muschietti directed the film, but I couldn’t find much information about him but he is known for films as IT (2017), Mama (2013) and IT Chapter two. But he got two coming his way as they have been announced. I am looking forward seeing more from this director.
