Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets (2017) **REVIEW**

‘Valerian’ being based of a book it’s hard making films from a book. Pressure is on for the fans will be the real critics. I haven’t read the book because I don’t read that much. As I have seen different reviews of the movie I thought to see it for myself and see of they are right.

In the beginning when City of Thousand Planets was just a regular satellite in space, it merged with others to and with time most nations from Earth had merged. Shortly after that, other life signs started showing up and they merged too. But one problem emerged, It started to become large and heavy so it slowly was getting dragged towards the Earths surface. To save Earth from massive casualty they decided to put engines on it and let it float in space to represent every species around the Universe. Fast forward a a couple centuries… Valerian and his Sergeant Lauraline is chilling on a mock beach when they get a call for a mission. As they are doing the mission in the most trippy environment you can see hints of the story line. But they manage to finish off their mission and get back to City of Thousand Planets.

Upon arrival they get news something hazardous is in the centre of it, they sent in soldiers but no one come back out. We find out what when a General is working on a side project behinds everyone’s back. Valerian & Luraline gets the job to find out what’s going after that they been breached during a meeting with Ambassadors, one of the key General was kidnapped. So now they go on a journey inside the planet to find him but at the same time, they discover the horrible truth about the project.

Storyline in itself it good but acting of Cara Delevingne is…meh. I’ve seen better. I mostly got irked by her horrible American accent. She could have spent more time on that accent to be honest.  Dane DeHaan playing Valerian did a great job on the acting part. We see some familiar faces in the film and throughout. Would I rewatch it? Probably not.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017) **REVIEW**

When we first met Thor he was basically a party boy who wouldn’t listen to his father’s advice. Everything was a game to him. Then he got into the Avengers. But we never understood Thor’s powers, til Ragnarok.

Thor is out in the universe looking for the infinity stones but when he comes back to Asgaard something isn’t exactly right.. but it doesn’t take him long to figure out what. Dear  old Loki – God of mischief. He had put Odin in New York and took his place. And this is where Thor meets Dr Strange who tells him where Odin is – Norway. But they need to hurry, Odin is sick. And here is where the biggest secret Odin kept from everyone. Odin has a daughter. We all thought Thor was the first-born but no. Hela is the first-born. Back when her and Odin ruled the 9 realms by fear and blood. Odin kept her imprisoned for her thirst for blood and war grew stronger. Soon as Odin had taken his goodbye to his boys he passed. And so the gateway to Hela’s prison opened up.

So now Thor & Loki gotta fight her but something goes wrong on the way back to Asgaard. Thor gets taken captive so fight in an arena, very similar to Gladiators. Where he meets… wait for it… HULK. So they gotta fight each other but here’s where things get interesting. Hulk doesn’t remember much so what happened really when Banner left? We get a taste test of Thor’s true powers because Hela DESTROYED the hammer.

Thor knows that only way for him to get Asgaard back from Hela and save the people is for team up with Hulk, Loki and a woman. A woman who captured him and sold him to the games. He heard by rumor that she is a Asgaardian, when he see’s her tattoo. Her knows EXACTLY who she is – Valkyrie

Thor is filled with great humor, wit and the thing that always works – awesome fighting scenes. I am most impressed by how we finally got to see Thor’s true powers and they work but I am sure we get to see more of it when Avangers come out with new film I think next year. Take your friends and go see Thor: Ragnarok today, it’s absolutely amazing.

Netflix Original: What Happened to Monday (2017) **REVIEW**

If you are a film lover you most likely seen a film where Noomi Rapace is the lead in. If it was Prometheus or the Millenium – series were she played Lisbeth  Salander.

Could you be able to live in a world where you are only allowed 1 child? If you have more the government will come and take her/him away from you. Due to over populating the world so some measures have to be taken. Terrence Settman just lost his daughter giving birth to 7 daughters. He decides to keep them all and teach them from his home. When they get old enough they need to take the identity of 1 singular person – Karen Settman. And how he set this up is this; each girl have a name, which is a weekday. So Monday goes out on Monday, Tuesday on Tuesday and so on.

To live like this everyday you need to show your day to the others and let them know about your day. Each girl have a bracelet they use to film their day so after dinner, its time to see what happened during the day. Have to be exact on the details because if they get find out, something bad will happen.

‘What Happened to Monday’ must be one of the best films I’ve seen during 2017 this far. Noomi is excellent playing 7 different people with 7 different personalities. Must have been difficult but she managed to nail it perfectly. I would recommend anyone to see ‘What Happened to Monday’ – best film Netflix Originals have created thus far.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) **REVIEW**

There has been so many different Spider-Man movies starting with Tobey Maguire, he was a good one and he sparked my love for Spider-Man. Then we got Andrew Garfield, maybe not the best choice. Amazing Spider-Man movies wasn’t bad at all in itself but Andrew Garfield, I don’t know. Then we got the latest one – Tom Holland. I was a skeptic but when I saw a preview of Tom’s Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War I got interested and couldn’t wait to see the Spider-Man film. And I finally got to see Homecoming.

Peter, an awkward teen and got just as an awkward best friend. He lives with his aunt May, she cares for him and is great with him. But Peter got a little secret he keeps from everyone, well we aren’t actually strangers to Peter’s secret. But the way his best friends finds out is epic in itself. Peter sneaks in to his room after coming home after curfew, waiting on him in his room is his best friend, Ned. Jumping down from the ceiling he turns around and there stands Ned. And that moment is quite comedic.

Peter being quite curious he starts investigating on why some strange weapons have come up, it can destroy an entire building. Weapons being made from material that comes from the space attack from Avengers when Loki attacked earth. As the same time he is trying to figure out who is making the weapons and why, he is trying to date the girl he’s been crushing on for a while. So how is he going to date this girl and save New York at the same time.

Also this thing about he wanting to prove himself so he can become an official member of The Avengers.. Tony Stark helped with giving Peter a full designed suit that will help him with his adventures. But after Civil War, Peter is desperate to prove himself for Stark and become an Avenger. So how is this actually going to work out?

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a quite funny film just like how the very first one with Tobey. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is cheeky, charming and funny. Tom managed to nail the character of Peter Parker just right. At least to me.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Tom Holland – Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Captain America: Civil War, The Lost City of Z, In The Heart of the Sea)
  • Michael Keaton – Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Batman, Spotlight, Batman Returns, Birdman, American Assassin)
  • Robert Downey JR – Tony Stark/Iron Man (Iron Man, Avengers, Chef, Sherlock Holmes)
  • Marisa Tomei – May Parker (The Wrestler, The Lincoln Lawyer, Crazy Stupid Love, The Rewrite)
  • Jon Favreau – Happy Hogan (Iron Man, Chef, Entourage, The Wolf of Wall Street)
  • Zendaya – Michelle (Shake it Up, Zapped, Kc Undercover)
  • Donald Glover – Aaron Davis (The Martian, Community, Mystery Team, Magic Mike XXL)
  • Jacob Batalon – Ned (North Woods, Blood Fest, more to come)
  • Martin Starr – Mr Harrington (Knocked Up, This is the End, Silicon Valley)

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) **REVIEW**

Back in 2014 when I saw first Kingsman I loved it. Kingsman is funny, got some cool stunts and it’s something that never been done before. Back in 2014 we met Eggsy, a London boy with a lot of troubles and not much discapline. But he got recruited to Kingsman, a spy organisation that straightened him out. He became someone he never thought he could become.

In second film, we met him again. Still witty but much smarter. He’s also in a relationship now. If you remember the ending of the first film you know who he rescued. Yeah, that’s his girlfriend now, believe it or not. But they are good together, just Eggsy job that comes in between. In The Golden Circle their relation and Eggy’s relation to his coworkers is being put to the test thanks to a woman who’s slightly crazy, she became rich by selling high class drugs and now want… world domination? What she want?

We get to meet Kingsman’s cousins called Statesmen. Based in Kentucky, USA. They make whiskey and Kingsman makes suits. But for this enemy they have to work together to find out where she is and what she actually wants. Poppy poisons her drugs and only way to get her antidote is to grant her immunity. When one of their own get poisoned by this drug they know the really have to work together. We also get to meet a unlikely movie guest – Elton John. Not kidding. Elton himself, plays himself in this film and he is so funny. Made me laugh every time.

So now Kingsman & Statemen have to work together, so how well will they work together really? Specially now that Eggsy and Merlin found out that Harry is still alive…. but something isn’t quite okay with him. He lost his memory, but as you know, he gets it back but is he still Harry though? And can they trust him? Can Eggsy and Merlin trust one of their own?

If you are a fan of Kings: The Secret Service then I would really recommend for you to go and see this one in the cinema. It’s witty, funny, cool stunts and it also got Colin Firth, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Julienne Moore. They make a fun incredible cast.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Taron Egerton – Eggsy (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Sing, Legend, Eddie The Eagle)
  • Edward Holcroft – Charlie (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Vampire Academy)
  • Mark Strong – Merlin (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Sherlock Holmes, The Imitation Game)
  • Hanna Alsström – Princess Tilde (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Tillbaka Till Bromma, Sami Blood)
  • Thomas Turgoose – Liam (This is England franchise, Eden Lake, Somers Town)
  • Julianne Moore – Poppy (The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Seventh Son)
  • Colin Firth – Harry Hart ( The Kings Speech, Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Love Actually, Bridget Jones franchise)
  • Michael Gamon  – Arthur (Harry Potter, Sleepy Hollow, Gosford Park, Dad’s Army)
  • Björn Granth – The King of Sweden (The Girl with Dragon Tattoo franchise, The American, Pelle)
  • Lena Endre – The Queen of Sweden (The Girl with Dragon Tattoo franchise, Faithless, Wallander)
  • Channing Tatum – Tequila (Magic Mike, 21 & 22 Jump Sreet, White House Down, Logan lucky)
  • Halle Berry – Ginger (XMen, Cloud Atlas, New years Eve, Dark Tide)
  • Jeff Bridges – Champ (True Grit, Iron Man, TRON:Legacy, Hell or High Water)
  • Pedro Pascal – Whiskey (Game of Thrones, The Great Wall, Bloodsucking Bastards)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Matthew Vaugh known for SEVERAL other films that done really well on the big screen. To mention a few: Kingmen: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Stardust, Layer Cake. So there’s a huge chance you might have seen work already. Born in London, he went to U.S and become an assistant to a director. After a while he returned to London and studied Ancient History. But he dropped to return to U.S  to start his career as a director. But soon saw everyone else tried the same so he went back home once again and made films in England, some shorts and he got noticed.

The Mummy (2017) **REVIEW**

We all remember the classic 1999 action film ‘The Mummy‘ starring Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz in Egypt digging up an old tomb only to find out it’s filled with dangers. It was an amazing film and I love watching it to this day, I strongly remember how it used to creep me out.

This version of ‘The Mummy’ is different. People first thought it would a 100% remake but then it wasn’t a remake. But the trailer for this version didn’t impress me much so I decided to wait to see until I decided not to. I want to see how much different it is from the 1999 classic.

In the beginning of the film we see crusade solders buring one f their own with a red crystal. And then they skip all the way to Ancient Egypt, to a princess called Ahmanet. She was the only heir to the throne, until she wasn’t anymore. Her father met a new woman, she gave birth to a son. Meaning Ahmanet was bumped off the throne and it would go to her brother. Devastated she decided to create a pact with God of Death  – Seth. She became powerful & evil. Killed her father and her brother when they where sleeping. As when she was about to sacrifice a mortal man so Seth could walk the earth in his body, she was intercepted and punished for her deeds. She was sentenced to something worse than death. Her body was taken miles away from Egypt to only be found by Nick Morton & Chris Vail in Mesopotamia now called Iraq.

Nick, Chris and an archeologist named Jenny go down the hole the guys created, she works with the military to bring artifacts to safety so they won’t be destroyed by fanatics. As they go down the hole something isn’t right. Mercury is in the tomb and then they find it… a well filled with mercury. As of stupid Chris and Nick is not listening to the archeologist they decide to bring up whatever it is in that well. She requested for more experts to come but as we know from films, military never listens to experts. Before we know it the thing that was in the well is on a military plane and weird things happen straight off.

The plane crashes in Surrey, England and princess is shortly alive after that, she could feel that her dagger and the stone for it was in England. Nick who died on the plane was all of the sudden not dead. But he was chosen to be the vessel for Seth. So now Nick and Jenny need to work together to destroy the stone so the ritual can’t happen. So now she’s looking for it and she is bringing hell to London. It’s a race against time. Who will get there first?

Is this version of the ‘The Mummy’ any good? It’s okay. Got some really cool special effects but script is mediokre. The only really good thing from the film is Sofia Boutella’s acting. She is playing Ahmanet. I’ve seen her before in different films and she always delivers.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Tom Cruise – Nick Morton (Top Gun, Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible)
  • Russell Crowe – Dr Henry Jekyll (Gladiator, War Machine, LA Confidential)
  • Annabelle Wallis – Jenny Halsey (Annabelle, King Arthur: Legends of the Sword, X-Men: First Class)
  • Sofia Boutella – Ahmanet (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Star Trek: Beyond, Streetdance 2)
  • Jake Johnson  – Chris Vail (21 Jump Street, Jurassic World,  New Girl)
  • Marwan Kenzari – Malik (The Promise, What Happened to Monday, Ben-Hur)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Alex Kurtzman is mostly known for Star Trek (2009), Transformers (2007) & The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). Born in Los Angeles and is a producer & writer. Isn’t much information about him but I’ve seen his work before and he is good.

Snatched (2017) **REVIEW**

On occasion we all like a good funny comedy. Some comedies haven’t really been funny as of lately and that is just the case of ‘Snatched’. Starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, mother/daughter duo.

Emily is someone who does not have anything figured out, she works at a fashion store and gets fired, her boyfriend leaves her just before their trip to Ecuador. Emily travels to her mothers house because she wanted to see her daughter, by the end of the evening. Emily manages to convince her mother to go with her after finding a album of pictures of her mother traveling and going to concerts.

So the girls leave and you can straight off tell that Linda (the mother) is being annoying. She’s being ridicolous towards Emily, you know being overprotective and telling her leaving the hotel to see the culture is the worst thing. So obviously, after Emily finds a man that shows her around he invites her and her mother out to explore some more. And as you might be able to figure it out, it goes sideways from here. Emily and Linda gets kidnapped but they manage to flee, only to be chased by the boss.

Is the film any funny? No. It’s just straight up annoying. Almost like they tried too hard with it. Script was weird and so much over the top. But that is what Amy Schumer is. I find it hard to find her funny in acting comedy films, more into seeing her doing standup stuff. Would I recommend the film? Sorry, no. Don’t waste your time.

Who are the actors in this film and where do we know them from?

  • Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer, Trainwreck)
  • Randall Park (The Interview, Trainwreck, Fresh off the Boat)
  • Goldie Hawn (Private Benjamin, Overboard, Death Becomes Her)
  • Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad, Neighbors, The Mindy Project)
  • Wanda Sykes (Monster-in-Law, Evan Almighty, Over the Hedge)
  • Joan Cusack (Working Girl, Toy Story 2, Say Anything)

Who is the director and what is she/he known for?

Jonathan Levine mostly known by writing scripts, couldn’t find much information on who he is. But go and check him over at IMDb
