When it comes to films about child soldiers and their life after it – it can be discussed for many hours and everyone might not agree. But this film – it hits head on the nail. You will see children and teens shooting and laughing when killing other humans. Specially this young boy. He started off as a normal boy in a African country – rebels came to his village and killed his father & brother. His mother and sister fled to the capital and are safe.
Agu – about 10 years of age. He lives in a unnamed African country with his family. Until the rebels gets caught up them and Agu is left alone and scared in the woods. While he wanders in the woods, hungry and tired, he run into a militia. They recruit him and Agu is quickly becoming the Commanders favorite. Agu learns fast while being in the militia – if he doesn’t adapt they will kill him. When he becomes one of them – he is noticing he enjoying killing other people. Seeing things and doing things a young boy shouldn’t. Agu finds friendship in this militia, in a mute boy who can’t be much older than Agu – named Strika. They share something special – something that only they will understand.
Beast of no nation definitely got a strong message to deliver to everyone. With it’s amazing cast and script you will enjoy this film. You will feel angry and sad.
